3,000-Mile Oil Change Used to Be the Rule, But Things Are Changing

For generations, the 3,000-mile oil change was the rule that we all accepted. If you didn't follow that schedule, you just simply weren't going to get the longevity out of your vehicle that you wanted. But thanks to modern advances in both automotive engines as well as engine oil, the rules are changing.

Most modern vehicles can now go 5,000-7,500 miles in between oil changes. This is aided by the advances that have been made with synthetic oil blends. You can continue to change your oil every 3,000 miles if you so choose, but it is more environmentally friendly to put more space between intervals. Furthermore, by following the newer recommended schedule, you could save yourself quite a bit of money.

If you are not sure what your auto manufacturer recommends for your oil change schedule, try checking your owner's manual. If you still have questions feel free to contact the experts in our service department here at Quality Mitsubishi in St. Johnsbury for advice.
