Safety First: Check Your Tires Before Towing

Ready for that mountain vacation and family fun riding through the trails on your motorcycle? Before the fun can begin, you need to make sure your vehicle and trailer are ready to haul by taking care of some essential car repair and maintenance tasks. Below are a couple tips to help start your vacation off right:

  • Do - Check the tire pressure on both the vehicle towing the trailer, and the trailer itself. Proper tire pressure ensures that your tires are making proper contact with the road, allowing your vehicle and trailer to handle better.
  • Don’t - Do not even consider trying to tow a trailer if your vehicle tires or trailer tires are not properly inflated. If you try to tow a trailer with vehicle tires that are not properly inflated, you risk not being able to turn or stop properly and put you and those around you at risk. If you try to tow a trailer that has tires that are not properly inflated, you risk the trailer swaying and becoming a danger to you and other drivers on the road. Not only should you check tire pressure before you leave, you should stop and check the pressure as you go to make sure the tires are still properly inflated.
