Green Car Journal debuted a new category for their 2020 awards, “the Family Green Car of the Year” category. At the 2019 San Antonio Auto & Truck Show, the Green Car Journal announced the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), the world’s best-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, as the winner for the new category.

"The Outlander PHEV remains the efficient family vehicle to beat, and it continues to underscore Mitsubishi's longstanding commitment to electrified mobility," said Jim Sweeting, Sales Manager, Central Region, Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA), upon receiving the award at the San Antonio Auto & Truck Show. "Winning Green Car Journal's first-ever Green Family Car of the Year award is a great honor and recognition of the Outlander PHEV's potent combination of reliability, efficiency and value."

The Green Journal recognized the vehicle’s environmentally friendly performance in combination of its family-friendly versatility. The Outlander PHEV was recognized for leading the market and rising above its competitors in a multitude of features.

The Outlander PHEV also received the Green Car Journal’s 2019 Green SUV of the Year. The vehicle brings efficiency and utility together as a plug-in electric hybrid designed as a crossover. The Outlander PHEV is also paired with Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. Its gas and electric components come together for a combined EPA estimated of 74 mpg.
