In today’s society, we all live life on the go. However, Quality Mitsubishi wants to remind you of the importance of taking a moment to pause before hitting the road. Getting in the habit of routinely checking your car will keep your vehicle running optimally and save you money.

Check Your Fluids

It’s important to check your oil every so often. Making sure your oil isn’t low will keep your engine running smoothly. If your vehicle has a slow leak or burns the oil and it is never refilled, your engine will not run properly and may even cease leading to a huge expense. You also want to make sure you have plenty of windshield fluid, so you can clean your windshield out on the road and see clearly.

Lights On

It’s also crucial to walk around your vehicle and check all of your lights. Turn on your headlights and test each turn signal and make sure all of your lights still function properly. If you have a passenger with you, have them check your brake lights as well. Maintaining functioning low beam and high beam headlights increase your ability to see at night, and maintaining properly functioning turn signals, taillights, and brake lights increases your visibility to other drivers on the road and alerts them to your intended maneuvers. Failure to upkeep your lighting could lead to a fine.

All Four Tires

Walking around your car before you leave is a good habit to form. Doing so, you’ll be able to catch if your tire looks deflated before you start driving. Tires can lose pressure due to multiple reasons including a puncture caused by a nail or sharp object. Realizing your tire is flat before you get in to leave gives you the opportunity to prevent ruining your rim and taking your tire to get patched right away. Whether you tow your vehicle to your tire shop, remove the tire yourself and replace it with a spare, or limp it to your local gas station to fill it with air is up to you as long as you can identify the leak and the severity right away.

Check for Animals

Before you start the engine, be sure to bang on the hood or beep your horn. While you enjoy the heat inside your vehicle, small animals including cats also enjoy the heat of your engine. Banging on the hood or beeping the horn will startle these small critters and encourage them to leave their resting place before you start your vehicle.
